1. Overview
Lawnify requires all service providers on our marketplace to maintain adequate insurance coverage. Insurance protects you, your clients, and your business from financial loss due to property damage, injuries, or other claims that may arise during the course of lawn care work. Maintaining valid insurance is a condition of participating as a provider on the Lawnify platform.
2. Required Insurance Types
2.1 General Liability Insurance
All providers must carry Commercial General Liability (CGL) insurance with the following minimum limits:
- $1,000,000 per occurrence
- $2,000,000 general aggregate
General liability covers bodily injury, property damage, and personal/advertising injury claims that may arise from your lawn care operations (e.g., a rock thrown by a mower damaging a window, or a client tripping over equipment).
2.2 Commercial Auto Insurance
If you use vehicles (trucks, trailers, etc.) in connection with your lawn care services, you must carry Commercial Auto Insurance that meets or exceeds your state's minimum requirements for commercial vehicle coverage. Personal auto policies typically do not cover vehicles used for business purposes.
2.3 Workers' Compensation Insurance
If you have employees, you are required to carry Workers' Compensation insurance as mandated by your state. Workers' Comp covers medical expenses, lost wages, and rehabilitation costs for employees injured on the job. Requirements vary by state — check your state's Department of Labor for specific obligations.
3. Recommended Insurance
While not required to join the Lawnify platform, we strongly recommend the following additional coverage:
3.1 Professional Liability / Errors & Omissions
Professional Liability (also called Errors & Omissions or E&O) insurance protects you against claims of negligence, mistakes, or failure to deliver promised services. For example, if a client alleges that your treatment damaged their lawn or that you applied the wrong product, E&O coverage can help cover legal defense costs and settlements.
3.2 Inland Marine Insurance (Equipment Coverage)
Inland Marine insurance covers your tools and equipment (mowers, trimmers, blowers, sprayers, etc.) against theft, damage, or loss — whether at your shop, in transit, or on a job site. Standard property insurance often excludes equipment used off-premises, making Inland Marine a valuable addition for mobile lawn care businesses.
4. Proof of Insurance
To participate as a service provider on Lawnify, you must satisfy the following requirements:
- Upload a Certificate of Insurance (COI): You must upload a valid COI to your provider profile before you can accept jobs through the marketplace.
- Name Lawnify as Additional Insured: Your General Liability policy must name Lawnify as an additional insured party. This provides Lawnify with coverage under your policy for claims arising from your work booked through the platform.
- Maintain Current Coverage: Your insurance must remain active and in good standing at all times while you are an active provider. You are responsible for uploading updated certificates before your current policy expires.
5. What Happens If Coverage Lapses
If your insurance coverage expires or is cancelled and you do not provide proof of renewed coverage, your Lawnify provider account will be suspended. While suspended:
- You will not appear in marketplace search results
- You will not be able to accept new jobs
- Existing scheduled jobs may be reassigned to other providers
Your account will be reinstated once you upload a valid, current Certificate of Insurance demonstrating that your coverage has been renewed and meets the minimum requirements outlined above.
6. Lawnify's Insurance
Lawnify maintains its own insurance policies, including:
- Cyber Liability Insurance: Covers data breaches, cyber attacks, and related incidents affecting our platform and user data.
- General Liability Insurance: Covers Lawnify's own operations as a technology platform company.
Important: Lawnify's insurance policies are NOT a substitute for your own provider insurance. Lawnify's coverage applies to Lawnify's operations as a platform and does not extend to cover claims arising from your lawn care services.
7. Disclaimer
Lawnify does not provide, sell, or broker insurance. All service providers on the Lawnify marketplace are independent contractors, not employees of Lawnify. You are solely responsible for obtaining and maintaining your own insurance coverage. Lawnify makes no representations or warranties regarding the adequacy of your insurance coverage for your specific business needs. We recommend consulting with a licensed insurance professional to determine the appropriate types and levels of coverage for your lawn care business.
